My props this week are entirely inspired by a curated collection of creators I found early in the week. http://thosewhomake.com/ is dedicated to showcasing people endeavoring to craft by hand. The site features videos, short interviews, vintage photos, and various books for those who want to make for themselves. Those Who Make doesn't take much time to describe itself, focusing purely on it's content. All I can find is that it's run by Michael Ariel, a maker of quality handmade textile goods found under the name Proudly Say. All around it's a wonderful site to explore the mindset of the the Read More >>

Friday Props- The Dreamy Dreamscape Edition

It's astounding how quickly a week goes by, but it's mind blowing how many cool ideas are dreamt up in such a short time. So here's to dreamers and their dreams. It's Friday Props: The Dreamy Dreamscapes Edition. I'll start off with some space props, because who doesn't dream of space? NASA is commemorating 50 years of space walks with a Documentary Entitled "Suit Up". Additionally they've put up a page on their site focusing around the milestone. Featured in the site is a gallery of images that are astoundingly cool. Check them out here. https://www.nasa.gov/suitup/spacewalks https://www.nasa.gov/suitup My next props goes to some Read More >>

Friday Props - The Spring Fever Edition

Spring is (technically) here, and we're itching for some sunshine around the office. This weeks props go out to some projects that bring a little more color and quirk into our lives; It's Friday Props, the Spring Fever Edition. My first props this week goes to Japanese art collective TeamLab for their latest installation piece "Floating Flower Garden". The immersive piece, currently installed at Miraikan in Tokyo, consists of over 2300 live flowers suspended in a room. When a viewer walks through the piece the flowers closest to them rise to form a dome around them. Check out video footage of Read More >>

It's Friday Props with some Throwback Thursday flair! It's Friday Props, the pseudo-retro edition. I'll kick things off this week with MyDecadeTV, a site that pays homage to the channel surfing experiences of the 70's, 80's, and 90's. The site sources videos from youtube, and has a pretty wide variety of content ranging from cartoons to soap operas. More likely than not you'll stumble into something of interest while making your way through the thousands of videos on the site. My next props throws it back just a little bit further. Old Radio World is an online archive of radio broadcasts Read More >>

What do dogs, Will.i.am, and 3D Printing have in common? A lot actually, you'd be surprised. That being said, this week we're props-ing some pretty stellar work being done by 3D systems, a US based company making leaps and bounds in the world of 3D printing. First up is the heartwarming story of Derby the dog. Born with deformed front legs, his owners were involved in a project to 3D print prosthetics in conjunction with 3D systems. This is the kind of creative problem solving that 3D printing is bringing to the forethought of the design process. And then check out Read More >>

I’ve been on a bit of a motion graphics kick this week, so I’m going to be giving props to some crazy cool animations this edition of Friday Props. I’ll jump right in by giving props to Spacetime Fabric Softener, an animated short by Professor Soap, who labels himself as A "purveyor of audiovisual candy". You can check out his website here, but I’d start by watching the short below, which features a highly playful visual treatment to deliver a light and playful story. https://vimeo.com/66903521 My second props goes to a stop motion animation by graffiti artists Blu and David Ellis. It's that time of week again - the time when we share some of the cool stuff we find. And this week is a special edition because it's the "Oh Crud! Darren's not here and it's Friday!!" edition, which means yours truly is at the helm with absolutely no planning ahead for this. There is nothing connecting this weeks Props together expect maybe - just maybe - they are all pretty neat. The first Props is going out to our old friend the Spirograph. Mind you, this isn't the plastic toy we had as kids. You know - the one whose Read More >>

Friday Props - Keep Calm and Carry On

With the holiday season already upon us many are feeling overwhelmed. We’ve found some props this week to remind you to keep calm, and carry on. First up is the incredibly stressful, incredibly fun looking indie game “Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes”. The concept is simple, one player plays in virtual reality, where they are presented with a bomb and no knowledge of how to disarm it. In the real world, other players around the diffuser pour over manuals and cooperatively work to talk the virtual reality player through the disarming process. The mechanics of the game are simple, but ingenious. Read More >>

Friday Props #90 - Musical Connections

It’s Friday once more, and despite the festivities, we managed to steal some time to find a couple of props-worthy gems. We’ll open with this unique music video for Wilkinson's “Afterglow”. Director Remy Cayuela has picked up multiple awards for the video, including first prize in the Young Directors Award at the Cannes Festival this year and a nomination for ‘Best dance video’ award at the UK Music Video Awards. The video breaks down a romantic relationship into statistics to create an interesting profile of two people through numbers. Watch it below, but be warned it does contain some NSFW Read More >>

Friday Props #85 - Scale

Friday Props 85- Scale Today’s Friday! But what does Friday mean, aside from Friday Props? Friday is a day in a week, in a month, in a year, in a decade, etc. But Friday only has meaning if it has context. Todays Props go out to those who have wondered about, and visualized various scales. From time, to size, to bytes, data has been given context through visual interpretation and, spoiler alert, it’s cool stuff.   Here Is Today is an interactive, visual representation of time created by freelance designer/ illustrator Luke Twyman.  The visualization features a diagram of today Read More >>
